City Vanguard is a live music television series showcasing independent musicians throughout Chicago. Our focus is to highlight, promote and chronicle the arts and culture of the city through performance footage gathered. The purpose of the series is to provide a consistent multimedia platform for the music world that otherwise does not get the exposure they deserve. For years Chicago has been known for its "underground" talent in the arts. However, unlike New York and Los Angeles, there is no established platform for these artists to get regular exposure. We feel this can be a plus AND a minus. The minus being that a lot of talented artists get drawn away from the city to pursue their careers. The plus is that this void is an opportunity for the artists to take an active role in the development of their own community without the restrictions of the traditional industry. This is where the series can be an invaluable asset. The program will be a place where musicians can debut their music while getting to know and expand their audience. City Vanguard can be the first step. It can bring a deeper understanding of Chicago artists and give a voice to this fascinating culture.
